The course provides a short introduction to Sail Cruising. During the weekend we will aim to visit many of the Solent’s anchorages and marinas and, if weather allows, maybe a little beyond.
We will cover the:-
· The yacht - stowing of gear, safety in the galley, engine, water systems and sea toilets.
· Safety at sea - flares, man overboard drill, life jackets and safety lines, gas and fire precautions and on deck safety.
· Basic seamanship - boat handling, both under sail and power, sail handling, mooring techniques and rope handling.
· Basic rules of the road and basic Meteorology
Details of the syllabus can be found in the RYA publication “Sail Cruising and Yachtmaster Scheme” G15.
Holders of the Start Yachting certificate can obtain the RYA Competent Crew certificate by completing a further two weekends of the Competent Crew course.
